Description

The film centres on Sharon Curley, the eldest daughter of the family, and her experience of unplanned teen pregnancy.

Still one of the freshest and funniest rock 'n' roll novels ever written, Doyle's first book portrays a group of aspiring musicians on a mission: to bring soul to Dublin. And that is exactly where we see the strongest of writing: when the reader becomes just as conflicted and torn as the character himself. The pregnancy itself is treated a bit briefly, more a prop for the development of the father character. At this point the family was fun and really thrived as a whole, with parents who really identified with their kids.In 1999, the British Film Institute ranked the film at number 38 on its list of the "100 best British films of the century", based on votes from 1,000 leading figures of the film industry.

and because I was laughing so hard in the next bed she finally talked me into ripping apart my book as I was reading it so she could also have something wonderful. I read the Barrytown Trilogy back to back and thoroughly enjoyed it - as much as the movies which I had watched more 2 decades ago.I've met him in real life, in fact, I've lived with him and I'm probably going to turn into him (right down to my desire to own a chipper). The trilogy introduces us to the family and, with great skill, Roddy Doyle leads us through several years of their life so that, at the end, I wanted more. The dialogue is brilliant, and hilarious -- again, not having been, I don't know if people there actually talk like this, but if they don't, they should. They slag each other endlessly, each trying to outdo the other and at times ganging up on one of the group of there's a bigger laugh to be had.

A musical and stage play based on the first two installments of the series have also been produced, ongoing from 2013 and 2018. The band comes together but ends up consisting entirely of white musicians who have little experience with the genre.

It is a spin-off following one year in the life of a Dublin ten-year-old, Patrick "Paddy" Clarke, as he explores Barrytown through his parents' divorce, encountering various characters from the Barrytown series of novels. I stumbled on this trilogy by accident and, unlike the film, it was though I came in at the beginning. He has produced work for a number of commercial clients, television projects, and composed music for two short films. I haven't seen the movie but don't know how it could be any better -- funnier, quicker, sweeter, or even more musical -- than this.
